The Purple Heart has origins as the oldest active metal in the U.S. military. It's given to
Service members who have been injured or killed due to an enemy attack/action. This article
will review a brief history of the Purple Heart and discuss ways we can honor the ~1.8
million Purple Heart recipients.
This award honors leadership excellence within NCFR and the overall discipline of family
science. Haley was selected as the award winner because of her exceptional leadership,
specifically during her time as an undergraduate student and her graduate career.
