“DoD Directive 1304.26, a federal law prohibiting gays and lesbians from serving in the U.S. Armed Forces; under this directive, the military could not ask recruits about their sexual orientation and military members were not obliged to disclose if they were gay or lesbian because that knowledge would be grounds for their discharge from the military.”
