"Ryan and Deci (2017) propose the satisfaction of three inherent basic psychological needs of autonomy (a sense of control and value in one’s engagement), competence (a sense of effectiveness in performing tasks and meeting expectations), and relatedness (a sense of belonging with other people) to be a fundamental condition for human thriving, allowing people to function with a high level of physical and psychological energy."
