Abstract Created by REACH
The Military REACH team was asked to review the empirical literature related to evidence-based methods for
creating a sense of connectedness and inclusion between active-duty families and their communities, a term
commonly referred to as community capacity building. Additionally, this review sought to identify available
research on the provision of community resources in the domains of housing, healthcare, education,
employment, sense of safety, connecting with neighbors, relationship building, and integration. Studies
examining active-duty samples close to an installation (i.e., within a 10-mile radius) were prioritized.
Research summaries convey terminology used by the scientists who authored the original research article; some terminology may not align with the federal government's mandated language for certain constructs.
