  • Adapted sports are recreational or competitive sports for individuals with disabilities. The Department of Defense Warrior Games is an adapted sports competition open to Service members and Veterans (SM/Vs) injured during their military service. For this study, 24 SM/V athletes were interviewed about their experience participating in the 2019 Warrior Games and, more specifically, how Games-related motivation and camaraderie aided their recovery process. Overall, participation in adapted sports seemed to provide athletes with a sense of purpose and the motivation to achieve new goals. The Warrior Games also served to connect SM/V athletes with others who have faced similar disability-related challenges.
