Abstract Created by REACH
This study interviewed 25 female military-dependent youth aged 15 to 19 to investigate the initiation of sexual behavior in this population. More specifically, this study examined military stressors, as well as interpersonal (social support relationships) and intrapersonal (individual factors) characteristics that led to sexual initiation. Most participants did not think military stressors influenced their decision to have sexual intercourse, but they believed that personal characteristics (for example, being in love, or feeling pressured) influenced their sexual behavior decisions.
