Abstract Created by REACH
This review of literature explored staff perceptions of the roles chaplains serve and the
value of their services among organizations of first responders (i.e., policemen, firefighters, and paramedics)
and military personnel (i.e., Airmen, Soldiers, and Sailors). Seven studies were analyzed, including two
peer-reviewed journal articles and five dissertations. Three main themes emerged, each highlighting the
important roles chaplains play in the well-being of first responders and military personnel.
