Abstract Created by REACH
This study described the experiences of previously homeless Veteran families who currently reside in transitional or permanent housing. Eighteen Veteran parents and seven providers of homeless services from Los Angeles County, California were interviewed about eight sectors of family life (i.e., relationships, transport, shelter, children, food, health, income, and safety). Three main themes emerged: household stress (i.e., parental stress and mental health, child mental health), housing instability (i.e., effects on Veterans and their children), and barriers to services (e.g., lack of coordination between resources, lack of family-focused services, children as a restriction).
