A strengths based model (or strengths based perspective) is founded upon the principle of identifying and emphasizing an individual's strengths rather than focusing solely on what he or she "lacks." This does not mean, however, that those deficits are ignored. Instead, the strengths-based approach to therapy leads to a holistic approach to improving individual mental health opportunities.
