1. Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF)
Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) was the United States name for the March 20, 2003 invasion of Iraq towards the beginning of the Iraq War. After Iraq was found in breach of the U.N. Security Council Resolution 1441, which "prohibits stockpiling and importing of weapons of mass destruction (WMDs)," OIF was authorized by President George W. Bush. The U.S. campaign continued until September 1, 2010 when OIF was renamed to Operation New Dawn (OND) as the role of U.S. troops was reduced in Iraq. President Obama ended the mission in Iraq on December 15, 2011.
